If you have accepted a very generous relocation to Thailand and you are taking the family, there is much to arrange; fortunately, your employer should be taking care of things like visas, accommodation, transport and schooling. If you are in Europe or the US, there are cultural aspects that might surprise you; we recommend reading up on life in Thailand from a foreigner’s perspective.
International School Education
The best International School in Bangkok would be the obvious choice, they teach the British Curriculum and use Native English-speaking teachers from the UK, whatever grades your children have finished, they can pick up the next grade so the transition will be smooth. The best thing to do is schedule a tour by filling in the online form and the school principal will show you around and answer any questions you might have. By all means bring the kids, so they can familiarise themselves and check out the many amenities on the sprawling campus and you won’t have to worry about the children’s education.
Cultural Differences
Asian people are more laid back than Westerners and Thailand is known as the Land of Smiles; which is rather refreshing; a fun-loving people, the Thais live for the moment and are generally happy people. If you are going to be working with Thais, we advise signing up for a course on Thai culture and business etiquette, which will prepare you.
Saving Face
The concept of face is very important in Thailand; image is everything and if you need to criticise an employee, never do this in the presence of others. Any scenario where a person is embarrassed in company would result in that person losing face and that is not good in Thai culture.
Bangkok

Driving in Thailand
If you obtain an International Driving Permit prior to arriving in Thailand, you can drive until it expires, then you should apply for a Thai driving licence at the local Land & Transport department. The roads are in excellent condition and a nationwide network makes long-distance travel a pleasure, with many rest stops along the way where you can fuel up and enjoy Thai food. You might have a package with a car and driver supplied, which many companies offer. In order to attract upper management, generous packages are normal and this can add up to huge savings.
It is important that you never let your visa expire, your employer should handle this, but if not, use an agent to renew your visas.
